February 2014 Massage Therapist graduate Jennifer Raines recently took over a massage business in Westfield, NY and, "she is a business owner for the first time!"
Jennifer was a top notch student at GLIT. She was recognized at graduation and presented with the Outstanding Student Award. When asked about Great Lakes, Jennifer says, "The faculty was always available to me and made the experience of driving to school from New York worthwhile and fun. The student clinic really gets you ready for the massage world."
Jennifer truly loves her career. "I love working with people, listening to people, and caring for them. Being a massage therapist is being present with other people, and helping them hold and release their pain. I couldn't think of a better way to help others." On a daily basis, Jennifer does anywhere from two to six massages, schedules appointments, does her own marketing and laundry (of course!) and is involved in the community. She works very hard and is having a blast doing it all!
Jennifer is also the manager of a yoga studio in western New York, and she typically teaches four yoga classes a week, which helps her really learn how the human body moves and helps her spot dysfunctions.
As for her future plans: "I plan to grow my marketing strategies and grow my business. I look forward to working on my craft and learning new modalities. It has always been a dream of mine to collaborate with other like-minded people to offer bodywork and other healings to groups of people that wouldn't have access to it normally."
In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as seeing live music, hiking, traveling, growing vegetables, and cooking vegetarian food. A good portion of her summers are spent on the grounds of the Great Blue Heron Music Festival, where she organizes all of the healing arts and is involved in many events there.
Way to go, Jennifer! GLIT is proud of your accomplishments!
