John Burns is a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer graduate from spring 20015. After graduation, he got employed as an ultrasound tech at Preventive Diagnostic Services in Buffalo. We recently had a chance to catch up with him, and here’s what he had to say.
I’ve been blessed to be working and growing as a sonographer at my current position at Preventive Diagnostic Imaging in Buffalo, NY, for two years.
The most enjoyable aspect of ultrasound for me is the patient care and all the truly amazing patients you come in contact with. Great Lakes Institute of Technology has a great ultrasound program with amazing teachers who give you the tools and information you need to succeed; not only in the sonography field but in life. Enrolling in the ultrasound program at GLIT is honestly one of the best decisions I've made for my life and my families future.
I decided sonography was right for me after seeing one of my best friends go through the DMS program at Great Lakes. Witnessing how much they loved their job and the opportunities it gave them to move forward in life played a huge role in my decision.
My goals for the future are to continue growing as a sonographer and to continue to broaden my marketability as a sonographer by completing additional registry exams in different modalities. The best advice I have for current students is to take full advantage of the time and resources you have available at GLIT and really strive to challenge yourself everyday. You never know the things you can accomplish until you commit to giving 100% of yourself to a goal you are determined to achieve.
In my free time, I enjoy spending my free time with my family and friends, playing video games and attending sporting events.
