Alumni Update - Kelsey Boucher Veterinary Assistant

Posted On 7/14/2016

We recently caught up with Kelsey Boucher, who is a 2015 Veterinary Assistant graduate who currently works at Camboro Veterinary Hospital in Edinboro Pennsylvania.

I work at Camboro Veterinary Hospital as an Out Patient Veterinary Nurse. On a daily basis, I obtain information from pet owners as to what is going on with their pet, draw blood, administer vaccines, restrain animals for exams, trim nails, prepare medications, and assist the doctor with anything else he or she needs during office appointments.

My favorite part about my job is being able to comfort animals who are scared because they're in a strange place. In the end, I am 100% there to help them and it's so important to form a positive relationship with the patient. I always want them to trust and feel comfortable with me, I love when I'm able to get a purr, or a tail wag, or even a big kiss out of the pets I work with.

My training at Great Lakes prepared me with an abundance of knowledge and hands-on experience pertaining to both small and large animal medicine, different ways to handle high pressure situations, and how to interact with the humans behind the animals. I love my job and where I am is exactly where I want to be right now.

In my spare time, I love being outside, either playing with my dogs or adventuring with my loved ones.
