In this Alumni Spotlight we catch up with Ryan Berndt, Medical Assistant graduate and current employee of Great Lakes Neurosurgery & Neurointervention.
Where have you worked since you graduated, and where do you work currently, and how long have you been working there?
I work at Great Lakes Neurosurgery & Neurointervention, Great Lakes Pain Medicine. I have worked here for approx. 2 months. This is the same place that I completed my externship. I was offered a job shortly after my externship was completed.
What type of things do you do there day to day?
My day to day tasks include: rooming patients, triaging phone calls, abstracting charts, vital signs, preauthorization of medications, scheduling referrals, authorizing imaging and providing the best care possible to people with pain, back, Spine and head injuries.
What do you like about your career?
What I love about my career is that I learn something new every day and that I get to help people when they need it the most.
What are your career goals for the future?
In regards to my future, I want to be the best Medical Assistant I can be. Specialty care has become something I grew passionate about and something I want to continue to be a part of.
What advice can you give current students and new graduates that can help them be successful?
Everything is what you make it, always stay positive and smile, and always be willing to learn something new every day.
