Posted On 6/26/2017

In this Alumni Spotlight we caught up with Meghan Mongera, Veterinary Assistant graduate and current employee at Corry Companion Animal Hospital.

Where have you worked since you graduated, and where do you work currently, and how long have you been working there?

After graduation,I was hired at Corry Companion animal hospital where I did my externship, and I have been working there since May 2016.

What types of things do you do there day to day?

My day-to-day activities include answering phones, scheduling appointments, taking history from owners, diagnostic laboratory work, radiographs, and assisting in surgeries.

What do you like about your career?

What I like most about my career is my interactions with patients. Ultimately, that was the reason why I began at Great Lakes Institute of Technology. Animals have been in my life for many years, and to be in a career where I can work with animals day-to-day is a dream come true.

What are your career goals for the future?

My ultimate career goal is to become 100% comfortable with surgeries. Even after a whole year out of school and working in the field I still have much to learn.

What advice can you give current students and new graduates that can help them be successful?

My best advice to a student going into this career field is to learn to listen. Listening to instructions and remembering them, will help you tremendously.

What did you like about attending Great Lakes?

What I liked most about Great Lakes Institute of technology is, they had help available to all students when help was needed.
