After taking a year off and working in various temporary jobs, she decided to look into a career in the veterinary field. She volunteered at a few places and checked out several schools in Pittsburgh and Erie. Lauren chose Great Lakes Institute of Technology for Veterinary Assistant program because of the "small classroom sizes, the one-on-one learning, and real on-the-job experience", she recalls. Lauren’s favorite part of her education was the time that she got to spend on educational field trips such as the TREC equestrian center and the A.N.N.A shelter, applying the skills learned inside the classroom in a real life setting. Of her experience, Lauren says, "I absolutely loved the education I received from Great Lakes. My teacher, Mrs. Prindle, really spent the time to get to know us and guide us in the right direction. I can’t say enough about her, she's amazing."
Lauren now permanently resides in Erie, after being hired by Twinbrook Veterinary Hospital within a couple weeks of graduation. As a Client Care Specialist, she has the opportunity to use her GLIT education each day, as she educates clients and assists in the care of animals. Lauren states, "GLIT helped me fulfill my dreams, and I'm extremely happy with my decision to attend there."
Lauren still uses her journalism degree by doing photography on the side as a hobby, but she knows that moving to the veterinary field was the right career choice for her. "I sincerely can say that I love my job. I have never felt as excited to go into work every day. The veterinarians at Twinbrook are amazing, and the staff that I work with is dedicated to helping every one of the animals. GLIT definitely helped me fulfill my dreams of working in the veterinary field."
