Student Success Stories - John Uranich - Surgical Technologist Graduate

Posted On 11/8/2011

John Uranich served in the military right after graduating from High School. Following John's second honorable discharge from the US Army, he chose to pursue a career in the medical field and enrolled in the Surgical Technologist program at Great Lakes Institute of Technology. John states, "I think my experience in the military and my ability to handle pressure makes surgical technology an ideal career choice for me."

John graduated from Great Lakes in July 2011 after completing his externship at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh, PA. He is currently employed as a Surgical Technologist at the main campus of the Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland, Ohio. John believes he is employed at "one of the best hospitals in America, if not the world." When asked what he likes about his job he says "I enjoy being the last line of defense in a very sensitive time. It takes a special individual to work in an O.R. I love helping people when it means the most. Everyone pushes each other to do their best and I'm proud to be a part of this team."

John says, "The education at Great Lakes Institute of Technology was top notch." He says his new career came as a result of the outstanding instruction from Mr. Muth and Ms. Kiehl and that they were great at preparing him for the field. He is looking at this opportunity as a fresh start for a bright new career. When given the chance, John tells others that "this goes to show that you can overcome any obstacles in life!"

The staff and faculty at Great Lakes are proud of all John has accomplished. He is an inspiration to everyone!
