National Multiple Sclerosis Society Walk

The Student Service Committee has been working diligently to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society. The Committee raised money before for the MS walk on May 5, 2012 at Presque Isle State Park. The students plan on wearing "Team Friend" shirts to show school spirit and support.

To date, students raised over $700 by selling MS bracelets and t-shirts they have designed. Students have also worked hard individually to reach their own personal goals of raising money.

Staff and faculty at Great Lakes have also come together to help benefit this event by hosting the schools very first "Chili Cookoff". The students were able to test the different types of chilies and cast their vote as to whose was the best. The cook-off was a success and helped raise over $75.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Walk

Great Lakes has developed an ongoing relationship with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Foundation asked for the students' help again with their annual walk. Students will be registering walkers, collecting money, and distributing t-shirts on May 19 at Presque Isle State Park.

The Committee is also planning another trip to the Soldiers and Sailors Home, taking goody bags full of candies and spending time with our local heroes. Memorial Day is right around the corner, so it makes for a perfect time to thank the soldiers and sailors for serving our country.
