UPMC Hamot continues to advance the health and wellness of the communities it serves by achieving clinical quality of the highest national standards and maximizing operational efficiencies. Several students at Great Lakes Institute of Technology strive to get an externship and most importantly their career started at UPMC Hamot. On Friday, November 30th Janet Eggelston (HR Recruiter) and Mary Ellen Cook RN (Nurse Educator) visited Great Lakes Institute of Technology's Surgical Technology Department providing a luncheon for our current externs and senior Surgical Technologist students.

The purpose of this visit was to recruit more Surgical Technologists to apply at UPMC Hamot due to the increased need of Surgical Techs in the operating room. They discussed the pay structure of UPMC Hamot as well as the benefits for working within their organization. They educated students on the Hamot community as well as certain criteria's that they look for in their candidates. This allowed students to understand what Hamot looks for in their Surgical Technologists. The students can then focus on the needs of the company so that when they have their interview they will know what Hamot expects of them.

Reps from UPMC Hamot present to GLIT Surgical Technologist students Our students were honored that UPMC Hamot, Janet, and Mary Ellen took the time out of their day to discuss furthering the relationship with their hospital and our school. Great Lake's offers up-to-date hands-on training; training that will be practiced every day in the career choice of our students. We would like to thank Hamot for continuing their relationship with Great Lakes Institute of Technology, and we will continue to train our students to enter the work force fully prepared and ready for their career.
