Great Lakes welcomes Alumni Jessica Habig to the GLIT family as the new Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Program Director!
After graduating from the DMS program at GLIT in 2005, I was hired at UPMC Hamot. I worked there for almost 6 years and became registered in Abdomen, OB/GYN, Breast and Vascular ultrasound. Then about 5 years ago I moved to western New York, got married, and landed a job with Medicor Associates of Chautauqua where I worked for almost 4 years. Last year, I took advantage of the articulation agreement that GLIT has with Clarion University and completed my bachelor's degree.
And now I am so excited and grateful to start this new chapter in my life as the DMS Program Director. I am looking forward to the challenge of learning new things and teaching our future sonographers.
My advice to students who think they may be interested in becoming an ultrasound technologist is to get out there and job shadow. If you find out it's for you .. GO FOR IT!! It's hard work, but worth it. I firmly believe you get out what you put in .. and the same goes for graduates. Get out there and find a job where you can see and do all kinds of procedures and exams, because the more you see and do the better you get.
Work hard, be kind, learn, and don't be afraid to make a mistake because that's when you learn some big stuff!!! Always remember that the patients are the whole reason we have our jobs, and they are looking for someone who cares when they enter any medical setting ... so take the time to care!!!- Jessica Habig, DMS Program Director
