Great Lakes Christmas 2012 Wrap Up

Posted On 1/7/2014

Tis the season and it has come and gone; we were busy celebrating here at Great Lakes Institute of Technology! For the month of December students were busy planning our annual Christmas pot-luck, thinking about the ugly sweater they were going to wear for the contest, and shopping for GLIT'ter gifts. We were definitely in the holiday spirit! The Dental Assistants and Pharmacy Technicians decorated the halls of the basement; it was a true winter wonderland! The halls sparkled with lights and snowflakes.

Many of our students wanted to give back this holiday season and that's just what they did! Many of our students were unable to buy presents for their children this Christmas. It is hard to take care of a family, go to school full-time, and provide for a family let alone provide for a holiday as well. Every single one of those children received a gift thanks to the students, staff, faculty and the owner of our schools. Allison Ziegler, Student Services Coordinator, enlisted several "Elfs" around the school to help wrap all the presents. It was wonderful to see so many people helping and caring for others.

We had our annual Christmas Pot-luck on the last day of class before winter break. Students spent the night before baking and cooking to bring in their favorite treat to share with their classmates. The school smelled of all these wonderful foods all day. Our vending machine company, Canteen, provided pizza for everyone and we all enjoyed cookies for dessert! We also enjoyed the funny ugly Christmas sweaters that everyone was wearing. Yes, we had an "Ugly Christmas Sweater" contest! Each program selected the ugliest sweater in their department and the wonderful world of Facebook allowed for those in the community to vote on whose was the ugliest. It wouldn't be a surprise that the Dental Assistant with a 3-D snowmen on her sweater would win! (See all the entries here) We ended our party with the classic and hilarious movie, Elf! It was a day of smiles and fun and we cannot wait to do it all over again next year! We hope everyone enjoyed their holiday season as much as we did!
