As an experienced Medical Assistant, La'Treice has the opportunity to work directly with the Great Lakes students during their externship, sharing her own experiences with them and allowing them the opportunity to gain more hands-on practice. La'Treice says, "I enjoy assisting with training future Medical Assistants from GLIT, having graduated from the program, I know firsthand where they are at in the career path and I can help them progress."
When we asked La'Treice what she likes most about being a Medical Assistant, she replied, "The staff here makes a wonderful team. We see a lot of patients and we receive a lot of positive feedback from our patients - which makes my job rewarding."
St. Vincent Health System partners with Great Lakes to provide not only externship experience, but also an opportunity for full time employment. The hospital system hires most of their Medical Assistants through the "Per Diem Float Pool", which is how GLIT graduates are able to get their foot in the door of this prestigious facility.
