Employer Spotlight - Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg NY

Posted On 8/28/2012

Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center is a private, not-for-profit, community hospital and regional referral center. The Medical Center provides services to nearly 150,000 residents in the Ogdensburg, NY and St. Lawrence County areas. They employ an active medical staff of more than 50 physicians representing almost all specialties.

Debbie King, the Radiology Manager, plays an active role in the education and employment of Great Lakes DMS graduates. Debbie states, "I can tell you from my prospective after being here 30 years that we were a small rural hospital that has evolved into a facility that has grown to meet the healthcare needs of all the communities we serve."

Debbie says that "We hire externs and graduates from Great Lakes Institute of Technology because they are well trained professionals who can begin working with only minimal training to our protocols." In her experience with Great Lakes, she says the skills she appreciates the most are the graduates' "professional mannerism with patients. They are also very confident in their abilities."

Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center has big plans to grow. Debbie's department in conjunction with the cancer center has just been accredited by the American College of Surgeons National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. The hospital is expanding their services and recently purchased additional equipment.

Debbie loves her job and states "I like my staff the most in my job. They make my job easier because I truly feel they work together as a family."
