Dental Assistant seniors are currently in their final three classes before externship. One of the final classes required before completion of their education is Career Professional Development (CPD). This class helps the student to prepare for their externship and most importantly the job interview process they will go through after graduation. The class prepares the students with resume help and advice, job interview techniques, mock interviews, and job search skills. During their CPD class Mrs. Vickey took her students on a field trip to the Salvation Army; here they rummaged through clothing to find appropriate interview outfits for their upcoming "Mock Interview" in school. Each student was able to find a complete outfit and was given the opportunity to purchase it if they needed it. This allowed students to differentiate what was and was not appropriate attire for an actual interview.
The class made a stop at Staples before returning to school. The students are required to have a completed portfolio for their CPD class. In their portfolio will be their resume, cover letters, references, and any other paperwork and certification they may have. Students browsed through the selection of portfolios that Staples had available. Each student was also given a free bag for any goodies they may have collected that will help in the job seeking journey. Students also had the opportunity to make any purchases necessary for their CPD class.
All-in-all the trip went very well and the students enjoyed themselves. One student said "The field trip to find the testing center helped us know where we are going to be more prepared for the day. The Salvation Army Store was inspirational, helping us gain the confidence we need for our mock interviews." Just another successful day in the Dental Assistant Department!
