9/26/07 - CNC/Machinist and Maintenance Technician Programs Now Offered

With the move of the Computer and Electronics departments completed, set-up of the advanced manufacturing department is underway.  Based on regional industry need assesments, the CNC/Machinist Technician and Maintenance Technician programs were the first to be brought on line.  More information about the programs >>>

4/3/2007 --  EIT takes over Industry-Specific Training and Continuing Education

With the recent opening of our new 50,000 sq.ft. training center in Erie, all Industry-Specific Training and Continuing Education is now being handled through Erie Institute of Technology.  For the past several years, this training has been handled throughGreat Lakes Institute of Technology (EIT's "sister school") while the former CAMtech programs were being re-written and re-accredited.

Around the same time that the assets of the former CAMtech were acquired, EIT -- an electronics and computer school -- was running out of space.  The decision was made to combine the two and build one new facitily to house everything.  Several sites were considered and the former Blair Building at the Millcreek Mall was selected.  After extensive renovation, the EIT portion of the building has been completed and the spring semester classes have already started in the new facility.

Work continues in the expansive manufacturing equipment bay to house the newly updated former CAMtechprograms, including programs in: CNC Machining, Maintenance, Moldmaking/ Mold Design, Plastics Molding, Manufacturing Technician, and Quality Control.  These programs are planned to be offered in the fall of 2007.  The facility is larger than the former CAMtech’sKnowledge Park location and the expanded classroom and labs not only provide ample room for this training, but also allow expansion of EIT programs, as well.

Even after the former CAMtech closed, industry-specific training has continued on an individual basis for area employers -- initially through Great Lakes Institute of Technology -- and now by Erie Institute of Technology.  We have trained over 900 students in the northwest PA region since January 2006, largely at the employers’ sites.  A schedule of new classes has already been developed that will be offered in the new building.

This growth is part of a larger private development plan by Mr. Rick Griffith, including his other career education schools:  Great Lakes Institute of Technology, located just several blocks north of the Mall, which teaches medical career programs; and the internationally known TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy, located in downtown Erie, providing world-class cosmetology training.  This initiative to provide much-needed training for this region is being funded entirely from the private sector.

4/3/2007 --  Warren Hi-Ed Office to Remain

We are proud to announce that we are committed to maintaining an office and training center the Warren/Forest Hi-Ed Council College & University Center. We will continue to offer many of the same opportunities in Corporate and Industry-Specific Training in the Warren Co. area.

Our Warren facility has ample classroom space and our very own networked computer lab with 10 computers.   In addition, area residents can take advantage of short, low-cost classes, seminars, and work-shops ... just for fun, for personal enrichment, or to upgrade skills.

This office also represents Erie's three Specialized Career Schools. Just a little over an hour or so away for Warren County residents, these Erie schools offer a wide range of complete career training opportunities in medical & allied health, cosmetology & massage therapy, electronics, and computer fields.

12/29/06  --Old Year in Review:  New Year in View

In looking back at the past year, it has been a busy one for specialized and contract training. Great Lakes Institute of Technology, located in Erie, PA, has trained over 500 students in the NW PA Region -- 250 in Warren, alone!  In addition to training for the general public at the Warren/Forest Hi-Ed Council College & University Center, Great Lakes Institute of Technology has offered classes at the Corry Hi-Ed Center, and most recently, has classes scheduled for 2007 at the Clarion/Venango Educational Resources Alliance, headquartered in Oil City.

Industry-specific training has continued to be in high demand.  This training has been wide-spread throughout the NW PA Region, including Warren, Corry, Erie, Franklin, and Clarion. But, Great Lakes Institute of Technology has also expanded outside the region into Jamestown, NY,  central PA, and the Pittsburgh area for specialized on-site training for our valued clients.

Some of the industry & manufacturing-specific training presented has included: Protective Equipment and Hearing, Hazwoper Review Training, Resource Conservation Recovery Act, OSHA Record Keeping, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Injection Molding Seminars I, II, & III, Mastercam X, Basic Lathe G Code, and Mill G Code Programming.
