Surgical Technologist

"I have more satisfaction in my job, because I know what I do is benefiting others. There is much opportunity - a real demand - in the surgical field."
-- Joe Gould, Surgical Technologist, Organ & Tissue Donor Network

"Students from Great Lakes came to us with the skills to become superior Surgical Technologists." -- St. Vincent Health Center, Erie, PA

10-month diploma program (day)

Surgical technologists are members of operating room teams. They help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instrumentation and equipment, sterile drapes, and supplies. They assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as adjust and check to ensure it is working properly.

During surgery, technologists pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants. They may hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.

After an operation, surgical technologists clean and restock the operating room.
