Surgical Technologist

“Surgical Tech is an excellent position to go into. The length of time for the
education is great if you want to get into the medical workforce without going to
school for 4-6 years.
-- Jay Parker, Surgery Manager, Meadville Medical Center
"Students from Great Lakes came to us with the skills to become superior Surgical Technologists."
-- St. Vincent Health Center, Erie, PA

Operating Room
Surgical technologists are members of operating room teams. They help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instrumentation and equipment, sterile drapes, and supplies. They assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as adjust and check to ensure it is working properly.
During surgery, technologists pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants. They may hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
After an operation, surgical technologists clean and restock the operating room.
