Dental Assistant

"I hire Great Lakes graduates because they come very well trained – they’re very knowledgeable about the field. It is one of the best schools we have in the area."
-- Eric VanDamia, DDS

"We have had good success with GLIT students -- we have hired four of them. Great Lakes gets them ready to come out into the workplace. When they get here, they’re ready to go to work."
-- Drs. Maria & Carla Orlando

9-month diploma program (day)
Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They work chairside while dentists examine and treat patients. They also sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare trays of instruments for dental procedures, and instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care.
Some dental assistants prepare materials for impressions and restorations, take dental x-rays, and process x-ray film as directed by a dentist. Those with office duties schedule and confirm appointments, receive patients, keep treatment records, do billing and accounts receivable, and order dental supplies.
